i dont quite understand the whole deal with the twins. i see that its rare and that they have different cells. I do not see how or why it becomes dangerous or ideal that they were able to live?
ReplyDeletePersonally, I found this article kind of confusing. I'm not sure how this chemeric twin thing works. It seems like they're saying. They're twins but look a lot more identical to the mother's genes...? Or what. Where the article speaks about the sheep having human organs... now that's just creepy.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so this article confused me a bit. A Chimera is a person that has two or more genetically different cells coming from different zygotes? So it's kind of like a DNA mix-up right? This article is about a rare case of Chimeric twins which are considered to be "semi-identical". The twins possess all of the same mother's genes, but only some of the father's genes.. so that means that the twins are "identical" when their genes from their mother are compared & "fraternal" when comparing their genes from their father? It's odd, and hard to comprehend but it's like a medical miracle. Why is it 'risky' and almost an impossible process though? Now, the sheep with the human organs.. I agree with Sumaiyya, that's just creepy. I understand how the organs can be used for human transplants and how this could benefit medicine, but mutant animal viruses and sheep-man hybrids are scary thoughts. ReplyDeleteI find this article interseting and confusing. its kind of hard to understand how the whole process works. i do think its wierd how the twins have most of the mothers genes. I agrree with sumaiyya about the sheep having the human organs being creepy....how can they do that? :o
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting how if the mother had the children and they took a dna and said it wasnt hers. well thats all i got from the artical because it was confusing...
ReplyDeleteThis article is very interesting. i understand now what it is about because you talked about it and thats intersting but i would get really angry if i had a kid and they told me that it was not mine! but yea the sheep having human organs that is weird.
ReplyDeleteThis was very confusing to read but the class discussion helped a little bit. I think it is very interesting how some one can have twin cells in there body and can end up giving birth to someone with different DNA/Blood type.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting article, i had never heard about ‘Chimera’.I didnt know it was posible for a person to have different cells coming from differrent zygotes. The semi- identical twin thing is kind of crazy too its a good thing that this only happens to 1% of the people i guess. And about the human – sheep chimera that scientists created now thats way to much.
ReplyDeletethis is on interesting article i've never heard about this things.I didnt even now the word "Chimera".but it was a good thing i read this beacuse i learned something new, but i the same time wired because it was talking about twins cells beeing in your bady and having like another person in you,it was wired i first didnt understanded. but now i getted.
ReplyDeleteYeah, so the whole sheep thing is pretty freaky. But it was kind of confusing. So, then theyre both identical and fraternal? hm. interesting. All I see how that is possible, is because there were 3 parent cells. And that is as far as I understand.haha.
ReplyDeleteThis article is interesting yet, a little confusing! What really caught my attention is when it said "So, here the twins are identical through their mother’s side, but share only half their genes on their father’s side." I have never heard of semi identical twins before! Also I thought it was crazy how they said only 1% of conceptions are like this, and that the whole process chimeras process is extremely rare and the kids however are supposedly doing fine!
ReplyDeleteOh and about the sheep with the human organs, like everyone else said, that is creepyyyy! That picture creeped me out a bit too lol! Seriously Mrs. Snow, I would run away if there was a "hybrid with characteristics of both man and sheep" running around BHC! Here is another Medical Marvel: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/popup?id=2024851&contentIndex=1&start=false&page=5
umm is that even possible to have a tree in your lung lol?
Wow this article was kinda confusing but different. It's weird how a person can have different cells coming from different zygotes. The thing I didnt understand was how they can be between identical AND fraternal twins. like how is that possible? And eww the sheep with human organs thats gross. again, how is that possible?
ReplyDeleteThis article is a bit confusing, yet somewhat interesting. The fact that the tiwns are "semi-identical" because they only have all of the same genes on their mothers side and not their fathers is strange. The sheep thing, thats just very odd.
ReplyDeletei could barely follow this artical. it was quite inter5esting dealing with twins. the zygotes are very interesting in how they work to even come out with twins. huh this must mean thats why twins can look so identical but share totally different personalities. pretty neet.
